Virginia Commercial Gaming Overview

By

Introduction

In 2020, the Legislature passed legislation permitting casinos at five locations throughout the state, along with permitting retail and online sports wagering and online gambling. Each locality will have to pass a local referendum to authorize casino gaming. The Virginia Lottery Department will be the regulating entity. The Lottery Department is in the process of promulgating rules regulating casino gambling and sports wagering, both retail and online.

Supplier Requirements

While the final regulations have yet to be developed, supplier’s licenses will be effective for one year and require payment of an initial $5,000 fee, with a $5,000 annual renewal fee.

Please check back as this page will be supplemented once regulations are passed by the Virginia Lottery Department.
